Rubber Expansion Bellows & Joints

Flexible joints that relieve piping stress, isolate vibration and quieten pumps, chillers and process lines.

Piping expands with heat, shifts with settling and shakes with every pump stroke. Left unchecked, that movement fatigues flanges, cracks welds and wears out connected equipment. A rubber expansion joint sits in the line and takes up the movement, so the stress never reaches the pipe or the machine.

Bombay Rubber & Carbon Works manufactures rubber expansion bellows and joints, fabric-reinforced for strength and moulded for a clean, leak-tight fit. They are used by plant engineers, mechanical contractors and design consultants across water, process and utility systems.

Product Range

  • Single-Arch Expansion Joints: Compact joints with one arch, ideal for modest movement and vibration in pump and pipe connections.
  • Double-Arch Expansion Joints: Two arches for greater axial, lateral and angular movement and stronger isolation.
  • Multi-Arch Bellows: Several arches for large movements and long, flexible connections.
  • Reducing Expansion Joints: Join pipes of different diameters while absorbing movement and noise.
  • Spool-Type Rubber Joints: Straight, arch-less spools for tight spaces and light-duty connections.
  • Custom Fabricated Joints: Made to your flange sizes, face-to-face length and movement requirements.

Construction & Materials

Each joint has a smooth inner tube that contacts the media, a reinforcing body of fabric (and metal rings where the design needs them), and a protective outer cover. Flanges may be integral or separate, to suit your pipe standard.

Elastomer Best suited for
EPDM Hot water, steam, chemicals and weather exposure
Nitrile (NBR) Oils, fuels and hydrocarbons
Neoprene (CR) Seawater, general industrial and chemical service
Natural rubber (NR) Abrasive slurries and water
Viton (FKM) Aggressive chemicals and high temperatures

Selection depends on media, temperature, pressure and the movement required. Share these and we will recommend a construction.

What They Do

  • Absorb movement: axial, lateral and angular, caused by heat or settling.
  • Isolate vibration: stops pump and motor vibration travelling down the line.
  • Reduce noise: dampens pipe-borne and hydraulic noise.
  • Correct misalignment: eases installation where pipes do not line up perfectly.
  • Protect equipment: reduces load on pump casings, valves and nozzles, extending service life.

Applications

HVAC & Water: Pumps, chillers, cooling towers and water supply lines.

Process Plants: Chemical, pharma, food and utility piping.

Power & Marine: Condensers, seawater lines and engine-room piping.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need an expansion joint?
Whenever a pipe must handle thermal movement, vibration, misalignment or noise, especially next to pumps and rotating equipment.

How do I choose single, double or multi-arch?
The more movement you must absorb, the more arches you need. We can calculate this from your required movement and line size.

Can you make non-standard sizes?
Yes, joints are made to your flange sizes, face-to-face length and drilling.

What details should I send for a quote?
Line size, flange standard, media, temperature, pressure, vibration and movement expected.

Do the joints need control rods?
On higher pressures or where pipe anchoring is limited, control rods are usually recommended. We will advise on your layout.
